Join us to make a difference

The demand for high quality, evidence-based research and information, and for opportunities to share knowledge, expertise and best practice to support trans young people and their families, continues to grow.

Poor health outcomes among Australian trans young people are not due to their gender identity but rather to misinformation, marginalisation, societal attitudes, family rejection, healthcare barriers, and experiences of violence and harassment. Transcend Australia’s work helps break down these barriers to ensure trans young people thrive and flourish.

About Transcend Australia

Child safety for Day 1
What sort of safety measures will be in place for Day 1?
We work hard to ensure all our attendees are safe and supported during our events. Here are the main ways we ensure their safety:
  • All event staff (Transcend staff, volunteers, security, contractors, performers and venue staff) hold a valid Working with Children Check.
  • The event is alcohol-, smoke-, vape- and drug‑free.
  • There will be a quiet space for young people needing a break from the activity and sound.
  • All activities and programming are vetted to ensure they are age‑appropriate.
How many tickets do I need to get for my child to participate? Do parents need tickets too?
This is a young‑people‑only event—parents and carers are not invited. We have comprehensive child safety measures in place, and there will be plenty of safe adults supervising. You need one ticket per child (ages 12–18) participating.
Do attendees need an ID to get in? My child has registered for a ticket in their preferred name; will this be an issue?
We only check ID if an attendee appears older than 17, and we verify using their photo and listed age. Attendees may register under any name they feel comfortable with—preferred names are welcome.
If I register for a ticket for myself, can I enter the venue with my child?
Unfortunately, parents and carers cannot enter. This ensures we maintain strict child safety practices. Staff and volunteers will be on hand to ensure your child has a fantastic, safe evening. Please don’t register for yourself, as capacity is limited.
Can't I just come in and make sure they’re ok before I leave?
We cannot allow parents or carers inside for safety compliance reasons. You’re welcome to arrive early to pick your child up at the end of the event—and maybe chat with other parents waiting outside!
My child is attending by themselves and is very anxious. What will you do to make sure they’re okay?
We applaud your child’s courage! Many attendees feel the same. Staff and volunteers will be circulating to welcome newcomers, introduce them to peers, and ensure they feel supported throughout.
Can I pick up my child from the venue after the event?
Yes—please wait outside the venue near the end of the event. It’s a great chance to meet other parents while you wait!
Do you support young people who are getting public transport to the event?
We provide information on all available public transport routes to the venue. If your child uses public transport, please ensure they plan their route in advance and have their ticket or card ready. We cannot supervise attendees in transit.
My child has specific dietary and/or access needs. How can I make sure these are met?
Please include any dietary or access requirements when registering your child’s ticket. For additional details or last‑minute requests, email vic.harden@transcend.org.au.
Can I donate to Transcend as a thank you for supporting my child?
We’d love your support! Transcend thrives thanks to our community. You can donate here: Ways to Donate – Transcend Australia
Health and Safety

The safety of our attendees is our priority. We will follow all relevant health guidelines, including:
  • Trained security and First Aid
  • Strict rules ensuring all events are drug, smoke, vape and alcohol-free.
  • Strict policies ensuring all volunteers and staff comply with child safety laws and checks.
